Match report A Wanstead 2nd XI featuring no fewer than seven previous winners of the National Club Championship at junior level were given a resounding cricketing lesson, with only solid batting from Jack Lord and Haseeb Chaudhri preventing Chingford from gaining what would have been a well-deserved victory. Lord and Chaudhri batted together for most of the final hour to leave Wanstead once again "celebrating" a draw.

Choosing to bat Chingford were initially cautious but Wanstead's failure to take wickets and lackadaisical fielding meant that Chingford had plenty of wickets in hand to launch a late onslaught. 80-1 at 30 overs turned into 245-5 at the time of declaration with Chingford skipper Matt McKay hitting 80. Jack Lord once again bowled economically (7-1-18-1) whilst Friday-night-call-up James "Bublé" Fitzgerald impressed without striking in his 8 overs.

Wanstead had a simple plan: be in the game at the last hour and with wickets in hand. After losing Ismail Dar second-ball of the innings this looked difficult. A score of 90-3 at the start of the last hour meant Wanstead were still in with a chance. Once again, though, the top-order failed to put together any sort of partnerships and it was only skipper Joe Palmer who provided any sort of resistance with 50, as Wanstead only just clung on to finish 154-9.

With 6 of the top 7 failing to average more than 20 it's apparent that there are some serious shortcomings in the batting department and this will have to be addressed if the 2nd XI aren't going to become embroiled in a relgation battle. Captain Joe Palmer said after the match, "We didn't bowl badly but our fielding left a lot to be desired and once again we couldn't put any partnerships together when batting. It's disappointing because we have a very talented team and I really expect us to do better. It's time for people to step up."
