Match report A glorious morning at Overton Drive saw the arrival of Goresbrook Matchplay side visit Wanstead for the first match in the tournament. Wanstead won the toss and decided to bowl on what was looking like a flat wicket. Goresbrook after their 40 overs had reached 225 for 5. 36 of which has been extras. Some of the Wanstead bowling had been poor and not up to the required standard. 26 wides had been bowled and this was the real difference between winning and losing. Goresbrook played their part in their 225 total as well. The partnership of over 100 between Gaymer and Barwick was the bedrock of the Goresbrook innings.
The Wanstead innings began quickly and was ahead on the run rate for the most of the innings and another century partnership from Sheri and Naail saw Wanstead close in on a victory. With Sheri and Naail both going in quick succession of each other saw the tail fall for 30 runs leaving Wanstead short of the winning score by 3 runs.
Well done and congratulations to Goresbrook for what was a really exciting match that had everyone biting their nails at the end.
