Match report The second of three recent 40 over Nasser Hussein Cup games was played at Springfield. On a massive pitch with a slow damp outfield early in the morning, the top four got some real exercise turning for the third run,nthe tail then wagged a bit when it was drier and it was pleasing to see Wanstead use up all 40 overs.

Our younger opening bowlers then quickly had the opposition at 10/4 off four overs. A position from which Springfield would never fully recover. However, significant credit needs to go to their number nine, who is 8 years old, and held up one end superbly against some decent bowling. This young lad is shorter than two stumps, and quite rightly came off to a full round of applause. I'd be surprised if the world of sport has seen the last of him, he is also on the books of Ipswich FC.

Our win by 116 runs follows on from a 6 wicket win v South Woodford on Monday, and puts us in a strong position to win the trophy, as long as fixture congestion with other cup competitions doesn't make it impossible before the weather breaks.

Good fun though, and great longer format experience for the boys.
