Match report Fairlop is now sunny, warm and it doesn't get pitch black at 8pm. So, all good for the evening league, where the weather has recently been the complete opposite.

We played Upminster, not a club we come across very much. This was a good game, and we bowled and fielded very tightly to keep them down to 80. Our squad of spinners kept the pace off the ball to great effect, and three enthusiastic stumpings generated plenty of middle order pressure after their decent start. Particularly impressive was the rare (and unprompted) deployment of a slip fielder for the leg spinners, which immediately generated chances for wickets.

When we batted, we faced their opening county standard, attack, who were excellent. Our first wicket fell to what I think I will remember as the ball of the season. Once the bowling changes took effect, we absorbed a bit more pressure until the reasonably short boundaries just became too inviting...and we got there with 5 overs to spare.

This was an excellent game, with the teams being left to get on with it, prompted only by gentle suggestions from both umpires on field placings.

We remain unbeaten in this league, with 4 games to play.
