Match report The semi-final started on time with the threat of rain later in the day. The wisdom of batting or bowling first on a damp outfield and under an overcast sky exercised the minds of many Wanstead spectators before Saffron Walden spoilt the fun by winning the toss and electing to bat. Their strong batting line up were quickly into their stride making 52 for the loss of the dangerous Jonny Brace in the powerplay, by far the most a team has scored against us this year in the first 6 overs. Wickets proved hard to come by but once again, the combined spin of Saurav, Nabeel and Misem gradually regained control. Despite their efforts, with 127 for 3 on the board at the end of the 16th, Saffron Walden looked poised to post a challenging total. The danger was promptly averted by four excellent death overs from Faheem and Jack that conceded only 28 runs in total leaving Saffron Walden on a still very respectable 155 for 3 at the close.

Waseem and Feroze continued their excellent recent opening record by beating the opposition's powerplay total with 54 for no loss. Feroze fell to a catch (and this was the ONLY wicket Wanstead were to lose all day!)at backward point with the score at 64, bringing Saurav to the crease. His 30 from 20 deliveries kept the score moving quickly, rotating the strike expertly to give Waseeem, and when he retired, Jayden, ample opportunity to accelerate. Jayden's three sixes in another coruscating 35 off 19 balls almost obscured the fact that he has developed a late cut... His total of 15 sixes puts him at joint top in the National rankings at the time of writing. The opposition total was run down in 17.4 overs with probably the best overall batting performance the U19s have produced this year. The final awaited...
