Old Brentwoodians v Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club Over 40's Indoor Team on Thu 20 Oct 2016 at 9.00 pm
Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club Lost by 4 wickets

Match report Good morning readers, I would like to thank the team that went out to Chelmsford. Of the 6 that turned up only three were what one would coin as ‘regulars.’ A massive thanks goes to (in no particular order) Dave Ramdial, Richard Walsh and Sohail Ahmed. No matter what you may read further on in this report, these gentlemen were brilliant last night and I hope that if they are selected again will consider playing. The Over 40’s management thank them and applaud their effort.

And now to the normal character assassinations, (oops) what I really meant to say is the facts about what happened last night in Chelmsford. So the first fact (some might say, the only fact…Ed) we lost. For the first time this season Wanstead came up against a better team so I congratulate Old Brentwoodians who were very good last night and played with good spirit and fun. Thank you.
Assassination time…well the keeper, he was rubbish tonight. The wall was the better fielder behind the stumps tonight. He had a shocker. As Alan phrased it, a cricketer didn’t turn up,” a bloody Sumo wrestler with gloves on” was playing, and he was no “Super Duper Sumo” (Wrestle that from your memories boys). So on this one, Alan has got it right for a change. (Blimey, that’s most unusual for you to acknowledge that somebody on the team got something right…Ed. No, it’s not the first time that I've commented on someone getting something right. Again more defamatory comments from the Editor. However, we move on and rise above the comments made by the jealous individuals and continue to write the unbiased truth about the match.
The star of the evening was Sohail…scoring 30 odd runs and taking a wicket, (It would have been more had the keeper turned up). From filler in to star of the show, Sohail was great. His only blip, was the ever so unfortunate run out of Ramon who was setting his innings out with an amazing opening shot boundary. I know that Sohail is feeling really upset about this and that he has sent this author an email outlining why he is sorry. Ramon has said that ‘Sohail has nothing to apologise for’ and to ignore all the others that may say what he did was a travesty of cricket. We are also ignoring the other comments that are saying that Ramon was the ‘Run out king of the evening’. Again these comments are again far off the mark and come from individuals that do understand the nuances of Cricket strategy. (Actually every player apart from Ramon says Ramon had a bad evening in the hall in Chelmsford…Ed). I’m going to ignore these comments and move onto to two other players that had a great time in the hallowed halls in Chelmsford.
Richard Walsh…Slowcoach (Oh my God, even from the outset you’re abusing Richard…Ed. No Ed, Richard is a Slowcoaches Player and plays for the famous Slowcoaches team), answered the call up when the first players decided that they weren’t playing when actually they could have but suffered a lapse of language and sanity. Err Jim, in case you’re unsure about to whom this comment was aimed at, it’s you. Jim was even reminded by his boss that he had said he was unavailable, despite on the morning of the fixture contacting the Capt that he was available to play. It appears that Jim is having his geriatric moments earlier than most. Anyway, back to Richard, he went in at number three scored 10 valuable runs and damaged his arm bowling pies but fielded with the great gusto. Actually at the end of the match Richard was so knackered he got lost driving his car out of the car park.
So now, the assessment of the third newbie…the one, the only, Mr Dave Ramdial. This over sixty, responded to the availability cry 24 hours before the match when someone pulled out. We all thank you. Dave went in at number 4 and successfully hit the ball to the square leg fielder every time. That was until a shout from the gallery came ‘Dave you can hit it the other way if you want’ and Dave went on to score very valuable runs that is until he was run out by Sohail. (Erm, Sohail, is there a theme about you being discovered??)…and we are back to Dave. Dave’s fielding was actually pretty good compared to the usual guy who stands at Square, so Dave will be sorely missed as he departs for a well-earned break in the Caribbean. (This is a slightly different variation of the tale told by the other members of the team. They said Dave was so shocked that he booked the trip during the changeover of innings to make sure he was never selected ever again...Ed) I’m ignoring these comments Ed!
The newbies as you have read are the stars of the show, so what about the rest I hear you ask? Well, you already have read that Ramon was run out but Sohail (a most unfortunate occurrence). Alan was caught in the first over by giving long off some easy catching practice, and Ib was run out because as we all know he is very slow. Ib will no doubt be saying to anyone that will listen, that It was Ramon and has poor running between the wickets and that was again the reason for him not scoring many runs. Ramon will say that the reason was strategic and Ib doesn’t understand that what that means. When this section of the report reaches the website and is read, I suspect that there will be the familiar backlash and opinions vented in the direction of the author. Again, I say that I only report what was seen and witnessed by 14 people, 9 of which have no axe to grind and view this report as unbiased and a fair reflection of what happened.

What I haven't mentioned is the bowling by the Wanstead team...that will have to wait just a little while longer, back to work.

Okay, its taken longer than I expected, but I can finish the match report now.

The Wanstead bowling was again full of the surprises that they normally deliver, some down the leg side some on the off peg and a lot just in the right place to be spanked which they were. A couple of wickets were taken by the bowlers...Alan and Sohail, but the keeper had a mare, missed a stumping and a catch. Both of which were exceedingly difficult to take, but would have made the win more difficult for the Old Brentwoodians. (There appears to be a large amount of yelling from the background, namely the Wanstead players. The players appear to be saying that the missed stuff was comical in that the keeper wasn't really there and had they had a proper keeper then they would have been taken in the normal fashion..Ed) There is a strike ballot being sent out as there appears to be a dispute appearing between Wanstead and their very experienced keeper. Watch this space, ACAS has been warned of the impending dispute.
