Loughton 'D' v Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club C Indoor Team on Sat 13 Jan 2018 at 11.00am
Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club Lost by 18 runs

Match report It is now 14 hours from the debacle of the night before and there has been some changes to the teamsheet. Rosie has pulled out siting something that wasn't really interesting enough to listen to apart from, now I have to find another player. Aziz decides its better to play golf that turn out for this cruddy team and Alan turns up to fill the vacant spot. Rosie's place was filled by the skipper dragging a family member along with the promise of some beer as compensation.
So after much abuse in the corridor while waiting to go into the hall, the rest of the team are informed about the goings on in Chelemsford the previous evening and Alan's prominent involvement in them. For a full understanding and explanation see Wanstead Over 40's v Chadwell Heath. There you will find a blow by blow account of what happened and why Alan was abused on this Saturday morning.
So to the match and what happened. Well, you'll already know that the team lost...again. But how needs much explaining and it is here where you will get that, the whole ruddy lot.
Let us start at the toss. Well we lost the toss but Loughton put Wanstead into bowl first which is what we wanted because we had a very decent bowling attack and thought that Loughton would struggle. Well with 33 extras given away (25 in wides) in a total of 127 the initial belief has been well and truly shattered.
Jim bowled well, with his swinging deliveries. He kept the Loughton players on their toes and playing and missing. However when it was swinging too much the Loughton total kept on increasing. Chris P suffered the same as did Finlay CB. Alan and Chris L suffered in a different way, they were hit. With 127 being the total to chase Wanstead took to the field.
Chris P as usual was asked to pad up first with his partner being Finlay CB. Now this was a good partnership because Chris is a quick runner between the stumps and his usual partners often struggle with the quick runs. Chris did ask if Finlay was a quick runner. Chris found out that Finlay is a very quick runner and was run out, so most unusually Chris found himself back in the gallery very early after only scoring3 runs. Finlay found himself walking back to the pavilion after scoring 13 and being bowled by a scorcher of a delivery. In goes Jim who is run out by Alan for 7. Alan hangs around hitting the back wall for a lovely six and a few 3's for a total of 18. Well by know another defeat was staring Wanstead in the face. Loughton were easily on top and the runs had all but dried up. We were staring at another embarrassing episode that the veterans would have to deal with and see their league aspirations diminish even. So, seven overs had gone and Wanstead were 70 runs away from matching the Loughton total with just over three over left. The team had already written off a chances of winning as the chase needed big hits.
The big players in the team, Chris P, Alan and Jim, and to some extent Finlay CB had not contributed enough. So Chris L and Ramon were left to try and bring some pride to the total. Winning was off the agenda because that wasn't going to happen. Well that's what the gallery members plus the whole of the Loughton team thought. That was until Ramon got going. In two plus thundering overs he smashed five 6's, one 4 plus a single to get 35 runs plus Chris L scoring 18 alongside, meant that Wanstead got to within 18 runs in the last over. It was the last over where the near miracle came off the rails. Ramon gets run out trying to back up for a quick single and the end of the innings arises when Chris gets bowled by a doozey. So at the end, instead of losing by 70 runs Wanstead only fall 18 short. The teams shakes hands and the Loughton skipper says that they were pleased Ramon was run out as he looked like he was putting together a winning innings. On reaching the gallery the Wanstead players instead of celebrating the effort the tail made, start spouting the usual rubbish that we were on for the win. Those players need to hang their head in shame, in big shame. So its on this very sad note that I conclude this match report. The moral of this match is that the people that can bat need to bat and those that bowl, bowl straight, none of this seaming swinging rubbish.
