In 1978 Wanstead C.C. won the Essex League for the first time when they secured victory in the last league match of the season. A year later they repeated that success in a campaign that also required them to win the final league fixture. Pete Long – who played at the club from 1972 to 1993 - has compiled a record of those two seasons, and his book documents, week by week, the highs and lows of 1978 and 1979 as the club sought to capture, and then retain, the highly prized championship.
