Match report The Matchplay run has ended in a series of dropped catches and calamitous wicket giving up. Most unlike the Wanstead of the past two months. So its the past matches that i am going to base this report on.
Many things are said about kids in junior cricket some pleasant, some not so pleasant. Wahat i am going to say is that all the players that have played for the matchplay team this season are great players and great representatives of Wanstead. They all have differing abilities and bring different things to the team. Different they are, however, they did all play as a team. That made me proud as their manager, but also proud as a parent that Wanstead has a good team ethos.
The season began away to Hainault & Clayhall with a good win. Two cancelled matches later we went away to Saffron Walden and did the same again. We topped the table and progressed to the second round with maximum points.
Next league format was against Goresbrook, Upminster and Fives, all three who were defeated with excellent bowling and fielding and batsmen that knocked off the runs and brought us to the Semi final. Its was the teams day for the shocker.
Anyway, Good luck to Loughton and Saffron Walden in the final.
I have a couple more thanks to give out, firstly to Ben Phillips, the Monday coach who has been great and the kids have improved their fielding and all round playing this season.,
My second and final thanks go to the parents. You are all excellent individuals that deal with the sad faces and smiles without a word of thanks. This is where I can say thanks to you all when the kids forget to. So Matchplay parents "ON behalf and your kids and my players and me , I thank you" all"
For those players getting a crack at Matchplay next year, do the same but win the bloody thing. For those moving on, keep moving on and getting better. Score runs, take wickets and enjoy yourselves.
