Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club 6th XI v Fives & Heronians CC 4th XI on Sat 27 Jun 2015 at 1pm
Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report Firstly...big thanks to a Wanstead Hero, Stuart Phillips who stepped into a gap created at 11am Saturday morning. This will be the last time Stuart turns up to the club on a Saturday morning thinking he will enjoy a leisurely afternoon of watching cricket with a nice drink. The moral is wait until all the teams have left and then turn up. Right, the match report.
Well I lose the toss and Wanstead have to field in a breezy Fairlop. The Micro climate of Fairlop is that it can be 25 degrees just as you turn into the ground But once you're on the pitch its freezing. That's why Fairlop is twinned with Antarctica. Anyway, back to the action...more distracted waffle later.
Opening bowlers are stalwart ballroom dancer Matloob Piracha, nifty on his feet and nifty with the ball, 2 wickets for 50 runs and Tariq M 1 for 11. This week the dancer didn't get a jug's worth of wickets. However at critical moment they brought the game back to Wanstead. Matloob getting rid of Fives centurion being a critical wicket.
However, it was the Wanstead Colts that shone brightest this week. Ahmed Saeed took 3 for 45, but the find for the season is Ollie Arnold with 2 for 12. Ollie, a Big round of applause for you...star find yesterday. Also great support bowling from U13 Naive, he has a great future ahead of him. Fielding was of a much higher standard than normal. The oldies in the team appear to have found some moves at last and stopped some balls that were close by them, as opposed to looking for the youngsters to save their blushes.
Okay, Fives got to 211 after 52 and then we had tea.
As with most Captains decisions, they aren't based on rational thinking (Well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it). Anyway usual opener Saeed M is asked to lead, this time paired with Ibrahim Aziz who was told in strong definitive terms "I don't want to see you until 17 overs are done". Well he totally disregarded this and stayed for the whole innings scoring 104 not out. Well done mate, a brilliant innings. Great support was given by Saeed M and Tariq who brought home the win in 36 over (with 7 overs to spare). Ollie and Zaki chipped in their support as well.
Overall team it was a great result that has sent us into a promotion spot...we are second at the moment in the league. Well done team you did really good!!!
I can now return to anonymity when Chris returns to lead the team to a league victory.
My final words go to a retired police officer Simon Bottomley, you're always there to help, thanks mate.
