Match report The visitors, a touring side from Kolkata, won the toss and unsurprisingly, elected to bat. Jayden and Bilal opened the bowling and restricted Calcutta to very satisfactory 28 for 1 off the powerplay overs. Any hope of accelerating the run rate was quashed by a further 2 wickets from Bilal in the 8th over before Saurav and Abubakar increased the pressure by conceding only 26 runs from the next 6 overs leaving the visitors on 64 for 3 after 14 overs. Tight fielding and bowling yielded a further 39 runs off the last 6 giving Wanstead a total of 103 to chase. Bowling honours go to the improvised openers with their 4 wickets which firmly established control of the innings.

Despite Saurav falling in the 5th over, he, Waseem and late replacement Zain comfortably won the powerplay, taking Wanstead to 49 for 1 off the first 6 overs. When Zain was bowled with the total on 50, solid contributions from Bilal and Abubakar left the result in no doubt as Wanstead reached the required 104 in 16 overs. Batting honours go to Zain for stepping up at short notice, playing in an U19 match when he is still only 14 and, most importantly, setting an excellent example by scoring off every ball he faced except the one that bowled him!

The match was played in excellent spirits despite the threatening weather. This was the visitors first experience of pink ball cricket and they probably did not do themselves justice on a slow wicket.
