Match report After a distinctly shaky start when Wanstead unexpectedly found themselves at 6 for 2 and then 38 for 3 in only the 6th over, Zain was promoted to steady the ship. When he was retired on 51 from 36, he and Faheem (36 from 46) engineered an invaluable recovery, taking the total to 98 in the 15th over. Brisk contributions from Jayden, Brandon and Manvir brought the Wanstead total to a respectable 156 for 7 at the close. Arish Ponupalam's 2 for 19 was probably the standout SW performance, particularly since he accounted for 2 of the top 4 Wanstead batters.

With a defendable total, Jayden and Brandon set to work. Brandon's 4 overs, 2 for 25 would be respectable in any T20 but Jayden's 4 overs for 5 runs and Rafey's 4 overs, 2 for 14 choked any threat of the home side matching the required run rate. South Woodford eventually subsided for 98 for 8 giving Wanstead a comfortable win to start the 2017 U19 T20 season.

Batting honours go to Zain and Faheem for rescuing a potentially difficult situation and bowling honours to Jayden and Rafey. Aryan probably tops the list for fielding honours but Zain staked a strong claim.

All in all, however, a satisfactory start and a good performance from which we can draw confidence, confirming as it did the depth and strength of the batting in this squad and the potential lurking in our bowlers. Congratulations all!
