Wanstead beat Loughton by 1 wicket

Game 6    Indoor League    17 December

Wanstead made two changes to the regular indoor VI, with Jon Cade and Christian Burgess replacing Kishen Velani and Merv Westfield.

Skipper Joe Palmer, still exhausted from his sojourns around the extremities of the Tube network, was too tired to toss and had to settle for a bowl.  Jon Cade, taking 2 wickets in his 3 overs, bowled superbly and was well supported by Zain Shahzad.  In customary fashion, keeper Arfan Akram opted to assist the opposition by dropping an extremely easy chance.

Despite Adnan Akram bowling in the middle overs, the Herons restricted Loughton to what the captain thought was a chaseable 102 for 4.

Joe had reckoned without further Akramoid intervention, however, as Adnan now chose to contribute to a run out.  Half way through the innings Wanstead were down to 50 for 3 and contemplating defeat.

At this point Jon Cade intervened with 20 runs to add to his 2 wickets and a catch, overcame Adnan's efforts to sabotage their partnership, and led the team to a one wicket win off the penultimate delivery.

The Herons have now won all 6 of their games, and the Akrams have obtained yet more mobile phones so that they can continue their cryptic "consultations."
