Samosas and Sandwiches Supervene

Darts at The Drive    Week 7    27 Dec 2011

The darts evening this week was even more special then usual, thanks to the snacks provided.  Sadly, the food was the only real quality on show. 
 
Group A was won by the pairing of Joseph Palmer Jr and Nigel Baldwin (members of Hero CC) as they won all 3 of their matches. Sam Velani and Armani "Shoab Iqbal" Baig ended runners-up.  Sam McGrath and Nikunj Velani typically did not trouble the scorers, and Mani Velani with Tony McGrath only managed one better.
 
Group B was also won by a pairing that won all three matches: Mickey Osbourne on debut, and Kishen Velani.  Adnan Akram and Mahesh Velani, also of Hero CC, were runners-up.  Young Zak McGrath did better then his brother Sam in that he and his partner Sanjay Batra won one of their two matches.  Joe Ellis-Grewal and Tony Burgess, representing JUBS TFC CC, unsurprisingly finished bottom of the group. 
 
In the first semi-final Mickey & Kishen prevailed, beating Sam Velani / Armani with a double 13 finish.  The second semi was fought out tremendously by 4 Hero CC members.  In a truly heroic encounter Mahesh and Adnan triumphed thanks to a double-top finish from Mahesh Velani, who has obviously discovered what his right arm is for.
 
The final was a very entertaining match with Mickey and Kishen off to a flyer.  But the man everyone came to see, Mahesh, showed his class and single-handedly got his team back into the contest.  Both pairs were left on double finishes for a few shots until Kishen cleaned up.

It has been an epic year for Kishen but you could see in his eyes that winning the Overton Drive darts again was the greatest achievement of his life.
