Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club 5th XI v Ilford on Sat 11 Jun 2005 at
Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club Lost 122 runs

Match report Full credit to oppo Ilford 4th XI for the manner and the extent of their win.

The Herons put out a team of several youngsters whose fitness and enthusiasm was tempered by 4 slightly older colleagues. A brave effort in the field, especially by Josh Hutchings, prevented the batsmen of Ilford from stretching too far into the distance.

After Ilford declared at 211 for 6, few of the Wanstead batsmen showed much resistance, apart from Josh who batted nearly half the innings. Our poor batting, against capable Ilford bowling, reflected in a score of 79 all out.

Despite a history of neighbourly rivalry, the game was played in a splendid spirit of sportsmanship.

The game, or rather a full-blooded pull off a full toss, left its mark on the shin of Trevor Hebden, a shin which was about eight meters from the bat at the time of impact but which eventually retreated as far as King George Hospital.
