Match report ARDLEIGH Green were probably left wondering what they have to do to win a match after setting Wanstead the apparently insurmountable task of chasing 317 for victory.

At the very least they may have expected a draw, but the Herons chased down the total, winning with time to spare and seven wickets in hand.

Green suffered a nightmare start as openers Ananda Krishnan and Robin Glassberg departed with the score on nought, with Maurice Chambers and Mervyn Westfield each claiming a victim.

Chambers added to his successes when getting Roy Smith caught but from 34-3 the visitors recovered thanks to Dan Russell and Liam Fearns who added 102 for the next wicket.

Fearns fell to Fayyaz for 64 but Russell continued for 79.

The real pressure came from Aussie Chris Hopper, who bludgeoned 92.

Fayyaz was the most successful bowler with three wickets, while Chambers finished with a two.

Wanstead responded well and while John Chambers (18) fell with the score at 63, that total was pushed on to 150 before Milan Patel departed for 46.

Arfan Akram completed another century, but more than 100 was still needed when he was out for 102.

Unlike in the two previous games, batsmen four and five were value for money with Adnan Akram and Chris Laas' respective undefeated scores of 87 and 58 able to transform a winning position into a convincing victory that moved the Herons up to third.

Wanstead skipper Arfan Akram said: "There were so many positives to take from the game, and we did chase really well on an excellent wicket.

"Milan Patel really got the momentum going because he rattled of 46 in no time at all, and in the end I thought my brother Adnan and Chris Laas really showed what quality batsmen they are."
