Match report Welome to a rollercoaster of a match report. Wanstead U13's this weekend have been weakend by the holidays and by the Peter Coe cup match being played later this Sunday, so this friendly has been a team of U11/12/13 players. Today Joe Bowles tokk the Captains armband and led the team to a very exciting win. Anyway, Joe won the toss (a good start) and elected to bat.
Joe enters the arena with Zain (U11)and within 4 overs Wanstead were 4 down the only person to score at this point was Joe who made 12 runs before being caught. In comes Gabriel and Hussain, both end the inning not out (after both retire after 4 overs)15 & 14 respectively. Hassan adds one to the total and Fergal and Nikhil dont add to the Wanstead total. At present Wanstead are 61 for 6....not the lowest score we've had to defend. However, into the comes George and Qais, who between them add 21 to the total (excellent effort) before being retired and letting Gabriel and Hussain back. Anyway at the end of the 20 overs an unlikely 106 had been scored.
Our Umpire had walked away for a well earned cup of tea.....and the match had to begin with another umpire. Anyway as usual Wanstead came with a number of options in the bowling dept and we opened with Harjit and Joe. The run rate was match consistently over for over and until the last over it looked as though Bishops where going to win the match until Joe brought himself back for the final over. the following was bowled...Dot, wicket, wide, no ball, single, single, 4, and dot. The managers and spectators blood pressure rose and fell with every ball delivered. Wanstead win. Pick of the bowlers has to be George with figures of 3 overs, 2 maidens 2 wickets for 6 runs. The rest of the team all contibute to an exciting match that sees a return fixture in two weeks.
