Roding Valley (Tigers) v Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club BU11s on Wed 24 May 2006 at 6:00
Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club Won 9 wickets

Match report We have had a lot of rain lately but fortunately we were able to start our match against Roding Valley.
With a damp out field, Will went out for the toss hoping to bowl first. Although Will lost the toss, the
Roding Valley captain chose to bat so all was going according to plan. Kishen opened the bowling with an accurate over. Everyone bowled well, with both Kishen and Will producing a maiden and Kishen bowling someone with a peach of a delivery. Oliver’s second over was extremely accurate as he decided to bowl over the wicket. Conor contributed to the bowling with two straight overs which yielded 6 runs. Generally the fielding was superb, with Sam’s direct hit, which resulted in a run out, being the highlight. Adam stopped everything that came his way at fine leg. Likewise Darren at deep square leg and Daniel at short mid wicket made some valuable stops. Owen, as usual, was reliable at wicket keeper and ran out 3 batsmen. Roding Valley finished their innings on 102-5.

Knowing they had a run rate of 5 an over to chase, Spike and Owen were on target from the start. The running between the wicket was aggressive which kept us up with the required run rate. Unfortunately Owen was bowled off his pads with an excellent delivery. Kishen went into bat and second delivery struck a beautiful cover drive for four. A massive, dark cloud came over the pitch and it began to rain. There were many funny sights to be seen as Adam, Will and Adam’s dad Steve were all squashed under a single umbrella. Also Brian, who was scoring, had someone holding an umbrella over him so the scorebook didn’t get wet. Meanwhile, on the pitch the game was still going on as the rain was getting heavier. We needed only a score of 5 with still 9overs to go. Spike finished the game of with a smashing four.

Overall the teams performance was positive which helped us in succeeding to win. The partnership of Spike and Kishen was a major part of the victory with Spike hitting 40 not out and Kishen hitting 38 not out. The bowling and the fielding were effective which restricted Roding Valley to 102-5. In such terrible conditions, which were so bad I thought I saw Noah in his Ark, the batting from our 3 batsmen was outstanding. I think this was a great victory for our team which we entirely deserved.
