Into the semi-finals of the National Club Championship!

06 Aug 2017

On Sunday, 6th August, the 1st XI beat High Wycombe CC by 4 wickets to reach the semi-finals of the Royal London National Club Championship.  High Wycombe CC won the toss and chose to bat but some tight bowling by all the Wanstead bowlers and excellent fielding saw us restrict them 182 all out. When we batted, a nervous start saw us subside to 36 for 3 but Kishen Velani and Tom Cummins then built a fine partnership of 79 before Tom was out for 35. However Kishen continued to bat superbly, seeing us comfortably home with 7 overs to spare and finishing on 86*. Now on to the semi-final on Sunday 27th August away to East Grinstead CC.

Sunday also saw the Ladies XI score their highest ever total in a league game, scoring 295-0 in their 40 overs with Neha Mahatma scoring 127* and Dipti Puthawala  145*! They then bowled East Hertfordshire Ladies XI out for just 59.

On Saturday the 1st XI had a comfortable 8 wicket win over Hornchurch CC to maintain their position at the top of the League. Hornchurch CC were bowled out for 170 with Joe Ellis-Grewal taking 4-45. In reply we reached their total with 16 overs to spare with Hassan Chowdhury scoring 46, Feroze Khushi 53* and Kishen Velani 62* off just 27 balls including five sixes.

On Sunday the first Junior trophy was won with the U10s beating South Woodford CC to win the inaugural U11 Haydn Davies Plate Competition. On the same day the U16s beat Brentwood U16s by 128 runs in the Matchplay Shield. Brandon Lord was the man of the match scoring 80 runs and taking 5-28.
