Womens match report - week ending 7th July
Wanstead Womens 1 XI v Colchester Womens 1st XI

Wanstead's ladies played 2 hundred games against Colchester at home.

In the first game, our ladies won the toss and elected to bat. We had a bit of a bad start and after losing the top order, the middle order struggled and our ladies finished on 76 for 6 after 100 balls.  Colchester had a great start where they scored 46 off 24 balls until Zee gave us the breakthrough. The weather didn’t surprise us at all and even after an early start, we got a two minute shower in the middle. Getting back on the field after 10 minutes, Safa got us a wicket with her first ball, and another one right after that., however Colchester still won by 7 wickets as they chased the total in 57 balls.

In the second game, our ladies won the toss and elected to bowl first. We bowled brilliantly and restricted Colcheter to 95 runs in total. Dipti took 3 wickets, Nehal 2 and Mary one, and it was a great bowling effort by everyone as 56 balls were dots with 3 extras only. A great start by our batters, with Dipti and Noor scoring good 21 and 28 runs respectively,  followed by Zee and Mary, who finished off on 21 runs each not out. Wanstead won by 8 wickets and chased the total with 36 balls to spare.

Wanstead Womens 1 XI’s v Upminster Womens 1st XI  Ladies played 2 hundred games against Upminster at home. First game: What an interesting first game the ladies had!  We won the toss and elected to bat first. An amazing start and great partnership of 79 runs where Dipti scored 49 and Noor scored 43. We finished with 122 runs off 100 balls for 2 wickets, with Saba scoring 15 and Zee scoring 3 not out. Wanstead tried their best to get the opening pair out but struggled till half way, when finally Melissa managed to give us the breakthrough. Noor and Amber both took 1 wicket each and the pressure shifted towards Upminster. With great tactics by the captain and keeping the field tight, our ladies won by 10 runs in the end. Wanstead Women v Crouch End in the VPCCL

Having lost the toss, we were put in to bat first.  Noor played an exceptional innings, scoring an impressive 52 runs off 45 balls before retiring. Safa contributed a crucial 15 runs, showing resilience and supporting the team's batting efforts. A few quick runs from Sri and Maddy helped get us past the 130 mark.

Fatima delivered an exceptional bowling performance, completing 3 overs with 2 maidens, conceding only 5 runs, and taking 2 key wickets. Seema bowled brilliantly towards the end of the innings, delivering 3 overs and conceding only 12 runs when the team needed to restrict the run rate.  The entire team displayed brilliant fielding, contributing to a tight defensive effort that kept Crouch End to 76 runs.

This match was marked by excellent teamwork, with each player contributing to a well-rounded and competitive game. The combination of strong batting, effective bowling, and sharp fielding made it a brilliant win!

Wanstead Women’s 1st XI vs Hutton 1st XI:

Hundred game No 1:

The seasons' first 2 hundred games against Hutton were played at home. Hutton won the toss and elected to bat first. A brilliant start by our bowlers as we got 2 early wickets taken by Noor and Zainab and kept Hutton on the back foot until their key batter (Erica) arrived to bat. The pressure shifted towards Wanstead as our ladies struggled to take further wickets and the opposition recovered their batting strike rate while batter no 4 (Erica) was still on the field. Amber came in and took the 2 key wickets of Erica and Hira in 2 balls with Zainab taking a brilliant catch. There was a sigh of relief as we know the damage that they could have done towards the end of the game. Nehal came in and took a wicket, and brilliant run outs in the field by Madiha and Nanette helped us restrict them to a total of 111 for 7 wickets off 100 balls.

Our batters struggled to score again as we lost 2 early wickets in the game. An amazing partnership of 41 runs between Saba and Nehal in Saba’s first game of the season gave us the stability that was needed. Saba scored 15 and Nehal 40, then we lost Saba. Nanette built another good partnership of 21 runs with Nehal. We lost further wickets and couldn’t chase the target of 112 runs as we finished off on 96 runs for 6 wickets.

Hundred game No 2:

We won the toss and elected to bat first, but the struggle for scoring continued. We lost the first wicket early and scoring a run-a- ball was looking hard work. Saba scored 15, Zainab 23 and Momina 17, but this wasn't good enough to even get to a total of 100 runs in 100 balls. 10 extras helped the ladies to finish off on 87 runs for 3 wickets, with 54 dot balls from the 100.

It was a good bowling start, with Zainab taking 2 wickets in 2 balls, but we couldn’t break their partnership or even take further wickets. Hutton chased the total of 88 runs in 71 balls with 29 balls to spare. We really need to work on our batting in the next games to win them.

Wanstead Women 2nd XI v Hutton Women

Travelling to Hutton, it was another tough fixture for the Women’s 2nd team having just 8 players again. We lost the toss, but thankfully Hutton elected to field.  A great innings from Deetya posting 26 (including four 4s) and Helen helped up the total with 19. Victoria in her very first hardball game finished 6 not out including a 4.  We were bowled out for 88 after 19 overs, and we regrouped during tea.

Deciding on an aggressive bowling plan, we put Kea, Deetya and Clem into bowl on rotation. The plan paid off and we skittled Hutton out for just 49 off 15 overs. There were 4 wickets for Clem, 3 for Deetya and 1 for Keya sealing victory, and exceptional keeping from Iqra.  A special shout out to Victoria and Gunjan playing their first hardball games, and Clare batting in hardball for the first time. Great team spirit and lots of fun. This team is coming together beautifully and hugely supportive of each other. We all left with big smiles on our faces.

Women's Match Report - week ending 2nd June
Wanstead Women 1st XI v Hutton Women 1st XI

A disappointing loss for Wanstead's ladies which could have been easy win. Hutton won the toss and elected to bat.
Wanstead's ladies were on it from the first ball. Nehal and Dipti’s amazing spells put Hutton completely on the back foot. Nehal only going for 10 runs from 8 overs with 4 maidens and Dipti going for 17 runs from 8 overs with 3 maidens and 3 fantastic wickets was the perfect start anyone would ask for. An amazing runout from Momina and brilliant fielding from Wanstead's ladies stopped giving extra runs in the field. Zainab came on to bowl and took 4 quick wickets as Hutton struggled. The ladies gave away their first extra in the 22nd over, showing how great the first half of bowling was, however we struggled to get their No 6 batter out (Hira), who then went and scored a brilliant 71 runs in the end. Hutton finished off at 129 for 9 after 40 overs and it was looking an easy chase for the ladies.

With our opening batters struggling to score big runs this season so far, we lost 3 quick wickets. Nafeesa and Momina looked like there was a partnership in the making but Momina got runout. Keya batted exceptionally well, creating a bit of a partnership with Nafeesa until Nafeesa got runout. Wanstead's ladies then went on losing wickets one after the other and finished on 90 runs after 31.5 overs.

Wanstead Women - Essex Softball Series

First round of games for the Women’s Softball team in the Essex Softball Series. We travelled to Barking Park on a beautiful sunny Thursday evening. The first game was against Ekota, a new team to the competition therefore unknown to us. Wanstead won the toss and elected to field. A strong performance from our bowling attack and tight fielding kept Ekota to 46 runs. We showed our batting strength with a fantastic partnership of Jamee and Erika hitting 20 off just 12 balls. Rani’s debut in this competition was a memorable one, securing 10 runs. Down to the last three overs and Ekota had us under pressure with Helen on strike needing a 6 off the last ball to tie the game. There were audible gasps from the crowd as the ball sailed over the boundary at square leg.

Energised going into the next game against Frenford, Wanstead went into bat first. Posting a disappointing 36, we need not have worried. Our bowlers rose to the challenge, with Erica and Omrita taking 3 wickets each and Jay taking 1 to leave Frenford finishing on just 17.

Next round we travel to Ekota.

Wanstead U15 Girls v Ealing U15 Girls

Monday 27th May

Wanstead's U15s Girls hosted a strong Ealing side in the T20 Cup. Ealing actually turned up with 9 County players for an 8 a Side match! After winning the toss, Clementine bravely decided to have a bat. Against an accurate pace attack, we failed to build any partnerships of note and were bowled out for 39 in the eleventh over.

Taking the field, wickets with a miserly economy rate were prerequisite. Our fielding once again was sharp and committed. Keya delivered on the economy going for 3 runs in her 2 overs. Alas wickets weren’t forthcoming and Ealing won with overs to spare.

Women's 2nd XI - Week ending 12th May
Wanstead Ladies 2nd XI v High Roding
Sensational start to the season for the Women’s Division 2 Team v High Roding. In the blazing heat of the hottest day of the year, we lost the toss and High Roding elected to bat. This was a considerable blow as 2 of our players had been called up for Essex and were racing to get back to Nutter Lane in time. With just 8 fielders, Wanstead set out with our heads high ready to take on the task.

It was a dream start. Clem took out the opener for just 1 run via an LBW. A run out from Kiah’s bowling followed shortly. Just 5 balls later Clem took her second wicket, a rocket smashing middle stump. Roding dug in for a long spell despite a couple of quality overs from Farah before we managed to finish them off with wickets from Iqra, Safa (2) a stumping and a run out. Roding invoked law 24.2 to prevent Keya and Deetya from bowling but they made a huge impact in the field in the short time while they were there.

Wanstead went in to bat chasing 111. Clem wasted no time putting on 21 runs for just 10 balls. Kiah helped up the total with an impressive 25. Iqra showed herself to be a true middle order batter with a ferocious 32. A few balls later and Keya scored the winning runs with a beautiful 4. Special shout out to Clare and Jamee who played their first ever hardball games. The team showed true character and grit today and I am immensely proud.
Womens Match Report - Week Ending 12th May

Wanstead Women v Colchester Women
Sunday 12th May

A first loss of the season as Wanstead Women’s XI played their first away game against Colchester and East Essex CC. We won the toss and elected to bat first as it looked to be a batting friendly pitch, however, we lost the top three batters, and at 40 for 3 in 9 overs, it required two good partnerships to get ourselves going and still give ourselves a chance to be very much in the game. Noor continued her great form from the last game, scoring 37 off 67 balls and building a partnership with Momina of 42 runs, where Momina scored 23 off 53 balls. We lost Momina in the 21st over to an unlucky stumping, but another 37 run partnership with Nana looked good, with Nana scoring 20 runs off 49 balls. We lost Noor in the 30th over and Nafeesa coming in meant quick runs. Nafeesa scored 17 off 28 balls in a 30 run partnership, with Wanstead finishing on 149 for 7 from 40 overs.

We knew that we were about 40 to 50 runs short, which meant going for early wickets in the game. With Nelly and Zainab taking 1 wicket each, with mind blowing catches in the field by Madiha and Serena, Colchester were 43 for 2 after 9 overs. Unfortunately, we couldn’t break down an amazing partnership of 109 runs by Bella and Lucy with both scoring 50s. Astonishing fielding by Anjali and Mubashra helped us save 25-30 odd runs in the field and the ladies showed positive character in the field, despite the fact things weren’t looking easy in the end.

Match Report - Week Ending 5th May

Wanstead Ladies v Upminster Ladies

What a nail biter!!

Wanstead's ladies team had their first league game last weekend, after a disappointing start with a rained off game. We won the toss and elected to bowl first. With a great bowling start we also went on and dropped a few catches, which towards the second half of the game looked costly. A great start by Noor taking 2 important wickets followed by Dipti and Nafeesa also taking 2 wickets each. Zainab took 1 wicket and with great bowling from everyone, we then restricted Upminster to 116 for 8 in 40 overs.

Our opening batters Zainab and Neha looked good, but we lost them quite early in the game, with Zainab to an unfortunate dismissal as the ball got stuck in the helmet and hit the stumps. Our batters tried to stay in but struggled and we kept losing wickets one after the other. It was looking really bad when we lost 6 wickets for 50 runs until Noor showed up at number 7 and Serena at number 9. It was a masterclass from Noor on an extremely slow pitch where little was going close to the boundary and even taking singles was a struggle. Noor made 39 runs off just 72 balls with 4 boundaries and Serena built an amazing partnership with Noor and scored 10 runs off 55 balls to keep our hopes alive. We lost Noor towards the end of the game and Serena too to a very unlucky runout and it was very stressful, only having 1 wicket left at the end. Safa batted like a warrior and stayed on the pitch to support Nafeesa and they both held their nerve and took Wanstead's Women over the line and led us to our first victory of the season!!
