Wanstead CC to take on Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge

08 Jan 2024

Dear Members,

A Happy New Year to you all and only 3 months until the start of the cricket season!!!

As you will hopefully have witnessed, over the past 3 years the club have invested over £150,000 into our infrastructure, including new nets, bar, toilets & showers, outfield and heating/roofing upgrades amongst other things. Whilst the good news is that we are looking to continue making much needed improvements to our facilities, the bad news is that we have now completely emptied our surplus account and have also spent a significant portion of our reserve account too, leaving us dangerously low on cash… We are looking to improve the seating areas both inside and outside the club, more improvements to the outfield and pavillion facade, green projects such as solar panels and bore holes, equipment upgrades for the juniors, the list goes on. However all of these further plans can not be carried out until the club raises some more funds which is where we need your help. Bring on our first club wide challenge of the year!

The Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge

Wanstead & Snaresbrook CC are to take on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge on Saturday 16th March 2024 and we are looking for members (YOU) to take on this epic challenge with us. The Yorkshire 3 Peaks is a challenge to scale the 3 highest peaks in Yorkshire, covering a total of 24 miles, 5,000ft in ascent, and must be completed in under 12 hours to be an “official finisher”. This is no mean feat and only has a c.70% success rate. Whilst you don’t need to be an Ultra Marathon Runner, you do need to have a reasonable level of fitness, enjoy walking (or not enjoy walking, either is fine) and have some serious determination for when the going gets tough…

Be it male/female adult members, social members, parents, junior members (over the age of 13), relatives, dogs (no sausage dogs), we would LOVE you to come and join the club on this epic challenge. We are looking for 40 people to take this challenge on from all areas of the club in an attempt to raise £10,000 to invest back into our facilities. An ambitious target but we are an ambitious club and its going to be a fantastic weekend as well as a chance to bring us all closer ahead of another big season for the club.

Participants will be expected to cover the costs of the trip (namely accommodation the night before/after which is estimated to be no more than £100pp) and help us raise some money from their networks. Please see below a brief itinerary of the trip:

Due to the logistics of booking accommodation and guides etc. I will need you to confirm by Friday 19th January if you are in and up for the challenge. We have never attempted anything like this before as a club and so are relying on you to make this a massive success. If you know anyone who is up for this then please put them in touch with us – the more the merrier.

If you have any questions and to sign up, please contact organiser and 1st XI captain Joe Ellis-Grewal on joeeg123@aol.com

Lets start the season off in style with an epic weekend raising lots of money for the club.

Speak soon,
