Still Unbeaten in Indoor League

Wanstead Overcome Asians CC

Indoor League    24 November

Wanstead were ready for the challenge from Asians CC, who had been unbeaten in the league.  Openers Arfan Akram and Rehan Hassan both rapidly reached 25 in fine style.  The Herons then lost 3 wickets in quick succession, two run-outs followed by a golden duck for Joe Ellis-Grewal who had travelled 260 miles to get cleaned out first ball.  Eventually Hassan batted on his own for an unbeaten 68, Wanstead scoring 159 for 5.

The Asians' reply began with a flurry of action until good bowling and the loss of wickets pegged them back to 90 for 5 in 8 overs.  Their last-man-stand was heroic enough for just 10 to be needed from the last over which, due to a run-out and much to the Herons' relief, was just too difficult.

Later in the day, and much the worse for wear (is that possible? - Ed), Ellis-Grewal was spotted in the clubhouse bar texting his resignation note to the club.

Played 5, won 4, tied 1.
