Wanstead Girls Matchplay Success

Girls Under 16 vs Harold Wood    14 June 

Wanstead U16 girls, clad in coloured kit, travelled to Harold Wood for the next round of the Girls U16 Matchplay tournament. 

Harold Wood put Wanstead in to bat and, in the rain in poor conditions, Wanstead posted a score of 107 in 33 overs.  Mention must go to Nafeesa who opened and scored 15 and Myfanwy who dug deep to score 28 off some good bowling, lasting 86 balls before being bowled. 

After tea Wanstead took the field determined to bowl and field well and win the game.  Opening the bowling Beth Chambers bowled beautifully and ended her spell with amazing figures of 5:2:8:6. 

Spurred on by that performance, the team worked well together; excellent work byZara behind the stumps and some great bowling led Wanstead to produce a comfortable win, bowling Harold Wood out for 57. 

The girls played the game in the true Wanstead spirit; they never gave up and played great cricket.  Well done to them all.  I am proud of their performance today.
