Match report The Herons' first defeat of the season led to a sombre post-mortem behind the sightscreen, away at Fairlop. The result, defeat by 11 runs, eerily replicated last year's outcome.

Set 263 to win, Wanstead were 118 before the first wicket fell, reached 150 before losing the second wicket in the 27th over, and then could not score 113 in the 23 overs remaining.

Hainault & Clayhall batting was led by Imran Qadir (yes, son of Abdul Qadir) who unleashed blow after blow to reach 130 not out (18 fours and1 six). The total of 272-7 set up the chance for a game even more exciting than last week, and so it turned out.

Arfan Akram, opening with John Chambers, scoring 14 boundaries and raced to 86 off 68 balls before holing out at long leg. With 118 on the board and much batting to come, and with Chambers securing one end, Wanstead could remain optimistic. The remaining batsmen were dismissed turn by turn, H & C coming back strongly, until the Herons ended 11 runs short with 9 balls left.
