Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club Won by 17 runs

Match report At the third time of asking, Wanstead v Ilford Len Stentiford (Group D)fixture took place. The time, 2.30 pm, the place, Overton Drive. Once again, Wanstead lost the toss and Ilford decided that Wanstead should set the target. In comes the regulars and trusted Ahmed and Rowan. Opening the Ilford attack is Salman, and he bowls really well taking out Rowan and Finlay for cheap runs. This leaves Jayden and Ahmed at the crease and they push the score along to 62 for 3 when Joe enters the fray. Ahmed is retired out at 30 and Joe adds 22 to the score even with a lull in the middle of the innings when only 3 runs in three overs are scored.With Joe out stumped in comes Nick and he thumps a quick 12 runs. Navdeep is bowled without adding to the total bringing to the crease the pair of Josh and Rahib. The team had been thinking of 130 as a good score, but at the 18th over were 110. With some big hits and explosive running they push the total to a excellent 142 off 20 overs. Drinks and biscuits followed.

So begin the attack on the Wanstead score. Ilford have their stalwarts in Salman and Nabeel opening and as expected are willing to chase down the 7 an over score. For 7 overs they where certainly on target to reach the Wanstead score. Some fine stroke play from Salman and Nabeel made the game very exciting. Some wayward bowling from our opening bowlers added to the atmosphere also. Both Nabeel and Salman looked like they were heading to retirement on thirty until the change of bowling brought about the opening pairs demise. Rowans excellent change of pace means Salman skies a ball and he is caught by Finlay and departs with a fine score of 24. At the other end Nick sends down a ball that Nabeel hits in the air and Rahib collects so the opening pair have gone. The ups and downs of this match kept on going. From overs 6-16 Ilford where kept at bay by some excellent bowling by Rowan, Finlay, Nick & Ahmed, especially by the Captain (Ahmed), who in his second over was despatched for 8 runs but came back next over with a wicket maiden. Anyway by the 19th over Wanstead could see the win in sights and at the end Ilford got to 125. A win for Wanstead by 17 runs.

The Wanstead fielding this season has been of a high standard and the players continued that with some excellent attempted catches by Rahib and Navdeep. They put 110% effort today along with the rest, Jayden, Louis,both chasing down the balls and stopping the boundaries, really great effort and Gabriel behind the sticks gets a special mention. This season Gabriel has developed into a keeper with confidence and this was demonstrated with some fine catching.
