Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club

Scorecard

Ilford v Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club BU15s on Fri 04 Nov 2011 at 7.15pm
Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club Lost By 2 wickets

Match report It is with a heavy heart that this report is written. Tonight Wanstead A lost for the first time this season. At the moment Wanstead A have played 4, won 3 lost 1. Tonight Ilford were the better team. They bowled well and the chased down the score with more than over to spare. This does not however tell the full story. Wanstead A tonight was not firing on all cylinders. In the Ilford innings we bowled wides and no balls, most unusual for Wanstead A. The usual score of players retiring and the other putting up double figure scores did not happen tonight. Ilford bowled and fielded really well. Their fielding was especially good and they restricted us to 72 runs. Wanstead A knew immediately that this would be a hard score to defend but this did not stop them from attacking the Ilford batsmen. Ilford knew form the outset that this was not going to be an easy target and they were made to work hard for the win. Our bowlers put in an excellent defensive spell and although Ilford reached the score, they lost 4 wickets along the way.Abdul's spell kept the Ilford innings in check. Their openers found it difficult to put Abdul away for too many runs. Saurav's spell provided 2 wickets one of them being an excellent caught and bowled. Ahmed aslo put in a great spell of bowling that still forced Ilford to work for their victory. The fielding was also of a really high standard, Finlay C-B took a reflex catch with his outstretched hand that nobody thought would be held including the Ilford player. Finlay's spell was also a rollercoaster of playing and missing that also included the uprooting of Salman's off stump from a slower delivery that was well disguised. In the field Wanstead A threw themselves around the hall trying to stop the ball hitting the walls. Waseem had injured himself in the earlier match yet performed magnificently as Naail, Ahmed and Abdul also did. It was disappointing to see the team lose but a pleasure to watch them fight to the end. Had we scored 20 runs more and with a fully fit team....who knows what might have happened. Anyway well done Wanstead A. For the next two matches on the 16th Dec I will not be around to see Wanstead A continue. On the 16th the grudge match of Wanstead A v Wanstead B will take place (lol). Both teams will be looking to preserve the Wanstead pride and say they are the best in the club. C'mon Wanstead A
