Scorecard

Colchester & East Essex v Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club Women's 1st XI on Wed 14 Dec 2011 at 2100
Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club Won By 13 runs

Match report After winning the toss (make that 5/7) we decided to bat first in the semi-final.

Skip opened the batting along with Nancy who in an eager attempt to do some running, got run out on the very first ball! In came Neha, who was ready and raring to go. After playing some nice shots she decided to give the bowler some catching practice and so was caught out on 7! Sadie too was unlucky and bowled out by a swinging delivery. The skip decided to play a silly shot into the gap at mid-off and so paid the price by being bowled for a measly 11, leaving Wanstead 32-4 after 4 overs. This left Anjali and Alicia (the 2 grannies of the team) to do all the running and most importantly staying in till the end! Some awesome shots and excellent running later, Alicia got run out for 9, which left the biggest granny to play out the rest of the game by herself accompanied by Alicia. Some sneaky leg side shots later, in the 9th over, Anjali hit one up into the ceiling and ran but had to be turned back and so was run out on 30. A great innings nonetheless, which left Wanstead with a respectable score of 73-6.

Defending 73 was going to be no easy task and so the skip needed tight bowling and fielding from all the players. First over went according to plan as Alicia gave away only 6 runs. Next up was the skip, giving away 8, followed by Neha giving away 6. Alicia was brought on again with a demand of a wicket (please) by the skip and she could only oblige and caught one off the ceiling. Skip came back on and an excellent run out by Anjali ensured that Colchester’s captain was sent back on 0. Neha followed up again with another good over giving away only 3 runs and a caught and bowled wicket! Alicia then bowled another batsman in her final over leaving Colchester on 39-4 after 7 overs. Neha gave away 8 in her final over leaving Colchester on 47-4 after 8 overs. Nancy was brought on and some good deliveries left Colchester on 57-4 after 9 overs. With 16 runs to play with, the skip came back to bowl the final over and eventually bowled their highest scoring batsman for 39 runs leaving them for 60 all out.

A real great game played in a fun and competitive spirit, which has led Wanstead ladies to the final of the indoor league vs. Abberton on 4th Jan 2012. Well done Wanstead ladies! 
