Match report AN unbeaten 59 run partnership between Ewan Ferguson and Rahan Hassan saw the fifth XI home to their first win of the season against a strong Old Parkonians side.
The pair steadied the ship after Wanstead were starting to make hard work of chasing Park’s modest total of 145 all out.
Bowling first in a strong wind the Heron’s opening duo of Soyfur Rahman and Faghrie Peters both took early wickets to leave the home team in some trouble at 24-2.
A quick scoring, if at times streaky, third wicket stand of 42 kept Park in the game but the in-form Peters bowled his second victim with the last ball of his bright spell to keep the pressure on the batting unit.
Khaled Ahmed continued where he had left off against Loughton with a fast and controlled few overs that ripped through the middle order and leave Wanstead firmly in control.
Len Enoch was his usual economic self and turned the screw on last year’s Fourth XI East Division runners-up taking 1-14 from four overs before Hassan (2-22), and a brilliant direct hit run out from Dev Patel, rapped up the innings with Park restricted to just two batting points.
In reply Patel, who had looked in good touch for his nine, was caught at slip and when Sanjay Batra skied a pull shot Wanstead had some work to do at 28-2.
Keeper Andrew Osborn (14) and Adnaan Bohardien (36) steadied the ship before two moments of madness saw the pair gift their wickets to the opposition.
However, any nerves amongst the visitors were quickly laid to rest as Ferguson and Hassan dominated the bowling to seal the win and the 18 points just before the last hour.
