NatWest U19 T20 semi-final v Shenfield CC U19 v Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club Under 19 on Sun 10 Sep 2017 at 10.30 am
Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club Won by 45 runs

Match report Arriving at 0900 at Billericay we found the sun shining and a heavy dew on the outfield. After settling into our dressing room, the squad were warming up under the supervision of Suminda as the opposition started to arrive, a scenario we like to engineer whenever possible. We expected Shenfield to provide stiff opposition, having topped their group and overcome a strong Brentwood side in the quarter-finals. Winning the toss, the opposition elected to bowl, eliminating one of the tactical discussions that always entertain the spectators with an early morning start!

Our top order batting has proved fragile throughout the summer and it was agreed to open with a revised strategy, promoting Jayden to act as pinch hitter after his success against Rainham. Despite the loss of Feroze, stumped in the 6th over with the score on 36, the strategy worked well and when Jayden was bowled for 46 off 30 in the 9th over, Wanstead had accumulated a total of 82, over 9 an over! The innings slowed down somewhat after this but Robin (19 from 18) and Brandon (22 from 24) helped us reach a final score of 140 for 8, slightly less perhaps than we would have liked to see given the exceptionally strong start but definitely a competitive total.

Shenfield immediately hit problems when Brandon took his first wicket in the second over and followed it with a second in the fourth. Not to be outdone, Jayden turned in a double wicket maiden for the fifth, leaving the opposition on 25 for 4. Only Sullivan (25 from 25) and Haddon (33 from 44) made significant contributions as Shenfield subsided to 95 for 9. After a number of dropped catches in the outfield, Aryan produced the pivotal fielding moment of the day, stumping Sullivan, the only opposition batter who looked like taking the game in hand. A comfortable win by 45 runs.

A repeat of last years final awaited us against a very strong Old Parkonians side who were still unbeaten this year after a close, low scoring semi-final against Loughton.
